Hiking!, service, and sewing.

I get to go on hikes every week! On Fridays. With a play group made up of ladies from my ward at church. They will all be somewhat stroller-friendly.
This last Friday we went to Riverside State Park along the Spokane River.

On Saturday, Dallin and I helped out at our ward service project which was to join with the Friends of the Bluff in clearing scrap metal off of the hillside. You know how we live on the South Hill part of Spokane? Well, on the edge of that hill is a cliff. Turns out, there are trails down below the cliff and not all parts are as steep as it looks from above. I just went to google street view to show the area we started at. Not the best picture but it sort of shows what I mean. As one lady said when we first heard about the service project, "Normally I avoid going off of cliffs."
Dallin and I carried a car! We did have the help of three teenage girls and one other man.  And it was mostly just the frame from a small old timey car. But still, we carried it for a long way along the trail until it was at a point where a vehicle could get to it to haul it the rest of the way.
Dallin got a couple of long scratches that he doesn't remember happening. We carried a lot of rusty metal but he's had his tetanus shot recently enough that he'll be fine.
Mini history lesson on where the scrap metal came from: Apparently there was a fire along part of the hill in 1972 and so people used it as a dumping ground for appliances and vehicles. (Besides the car, there was also a retro washing machine in the pile we removed.) The area was eventually declared a city park and off limits to dumping.

I had two more pairs of pj pants without matching pj tops so I couldn't resist making them into a pj set.
Here's my second attempt at pants-turned-shirt.
I don't think Everett's chances at a future in the modeling business are very sound if he keeps using these faces.

Other happenings this last little while: We enjoyed a lovely family get-together and delicious barbecue on Friday. Right before heading to that, Kira came with Everett and I to the park. Ev and I have gone on quite a few walks. He loves going outside, it is gorgeous out, and we both need exercise, so its just amazing. He and I have also done some random local activities like visit the retirement home near our complex, and go to a build-a-thon at our library. Yay free entertainment for a poor college student family!
