Jungle Nursery

A: Everett grew too long for his bassinet in our room so we graduated him up to his crib in the nursery across the hall. He looks so tiny in the big crib. When Dallin and I were in San Jose, my dad was super nice and set up the crib and changing table and fixed the rocker/recliner. When he and Dallin went to California for the Warriors vs. Clippers game, I finished decorating the nursery. There are 13 different species of animal throughout the room, see if you can spot them all. Make sure to include "cute-a-saurus" which is the label given to Everett on his shirt. My dad jokes that Everett won't be able to sleep with all of the scary animals staring him down. Dallin was pretty adamant that the crib shouldn't have a bumper pad because of the suffocation hazard. I thought the pad that came with the set was too adorable to get rid of, so I raised it up to where it is a safe decoration. We didn't originally plan for the theme of his nursery to be jungle/rainforest but after collecting a few things, we noticed the pattern, kept with it, and love it. The swing and bouncer he got from his Aunt Hanna unintentionally fit with the theme perfectly. You can see glimpses of them in previous posts.

Everett playing with his toys:
There are a couple of them that make noises when touched. At first I found this to be a little irritating, but now I love how they provide immediate reinforcement for him hitting them. He is in the process of figuring out how to control his arms. He hits himself in the face all the time. It's as if he's establishing his distance from other objects going back and forth between: my face, mommy's arm, my face, mommy's shoulder, my face, etc. It makes me laugh to picture an adult making the arm motions he does. They would look very silly, but Everett, he just looks precious.

Picture Update

D: We were having technical difficulties getting pictures posted. That's why these didn't come out with Alicia's post. Here's some pictures of the adorable boy.

Big smiles!!

Everett holding a leftover balloon from Jacob and Susan's announcement that they're having a boy!

This was a sign on Alicia's breast pump. The pump was how we survived the last couple weeks of school in December. Still, it being an explosion hazard is pretty weird to think about.

With great-grandma and grandpa Perazzo.

When you look at him straight on, he looks bald. All of his hair is on the sides and in the back. Old man hair.

The happy and sad Santa baby pictures. I thought Alicia must have been torturing Everett from the screams I heard from the back of the house. He did not like being dressed up.

More of the Christmas picture barrage. I mistakenly suggested this one with "Why don't you just stuff him in his stocking?" Little did I know... His stocking says "Baby's 1st Christmas 2012" on it.

Catching a nap with Daddy. I was supposed to be watching him. Oops.

He has discovered his fist. And he loves it. Sorry, Grandpa, he's a righty.

I've been loving work at the dairy. My application for Eastern Washington University in School Psychology is in the works. Tomorrow I get to go to the Clippers/Warriors game in Oakland. Everett's blessing is two weeks from today here in Fallon.

My favorite things about Everett: When he's going to sleep or waking up, he'll rub his face against you until he's comfortable. Like Alicia said, his pouting face (the face he makes right before he starts crying) is about the cutest thing in the world. It really shouldn't be. He looks particularly adorable when he's sleeping on his stomach. The way he gnaws on his fist is just too cute. He makes this sighing sound when he's content that makes our hearts melt.

Observations

A:
Some cute things Everett does: 1) one sided smile + soft laugh + rumbling belly (he does this while sleeping sometimes which is definitely the cutest thing ever) 2) sigh while eating 3) smile 4) stretch 5) yawn 6) make a pitiful deep frown with a trembling lip hanging out, just before crying (maybe it's wrong to find this cute because he's obviously not happy, but oh that face!) 7) sneeze 8) burp (it's cute because he's so little and it's so loud) 9) open his eyes really wide in dim light 10) majorly fail at finding food with eyes closed and mouth searching the surrounding area 11) look "milk drunk" after eating with the pattern from my shirt on his face

I usually bump into things. But now that I have a son that I carry around with me, I have to pay more attention to where my body is in reference to other objects so that I don't bump him into things.

I noticed today that Everett's pants have real, working pockets. What does he need pockets for? Some of my pants don't have real, working pockets! I can't think of one of my pajama pants that have pockets, yet all of Dallin's pj's do. Dallin's swim trunks do too. I have had multiple pairs of pants over the years that have fake pockets. What, because women own purses they don't need pockets? It's sexist I tell you, sexist!

Some positives about feeding Everett in the middle of the night: 1) it is obvious what he wants, which is not the case during the day 2) he usually falls asleep when he's done and so I can sleep too 3) it's time that only I can share with him

I don't mind changing diapers all that much. I especially don't mind when Everett doesn't mind. I probably will mind more when he eats more than milk and they get messier and smellier. Now, this doesn't mean that I wouldn't let you change his diaper if you volunteered to do so.
